New publications for Edexcel A-level Chemistry from September 2008

Several different publishers are producing resources to support the teaching and learning of Edexcel A-level Chemistry from September 2008. We are putting information on this website as it becomes available. This is straight information from the publishers, not reviews or comments.

Edexcel AS Students' Book with ActiveBook CD-ROM ISBN 978 1 4058 9635 1
ActiveBook comes free with the Students’ book: it is a single-licence CD-ROM containing the Students’ Book, for students to view on screen or interactive whiteboard. From it students can access some added resources, including an interactive glossary, data tables, and target statements (in the form ‘I can ... ’) based on the specification.

Further note on the ActiveBook: the single-user license means you can't install it on a computer. So Student A uses the book and CD in 2008/09, and then passes it on to Student B for use.

ActiveTeach:
This is a network site licence for schools and colleges which includes an embedded version of the ActiveBook. From the ActiveTeach version of the ActiveBook pages you can also access:
• interactive resources including animations and videos
• ‘My resources’ section where you can store your own resources
• answers to student book questions
• sample exam questions
• direct links to the relevant specification statements
• links to the implementation and assessment guide if this is also installed on your network (see below).

Edexcel AS Teachers' & Technicians' Implementation & Assessment Guide ISBN 978 1 4058 9636 8:
This guide for teachers and technicians is supplied in hard copy in a ring binder, together with a CD-ROM containing editable digital versions of all the pages in the guide. It contains:
• photocopiable student sheets for all practicals in the new specification, supported by relevant teacher and technician notes
• course planner to help deliver the new specification
• exam-style practice questions created from Edexcel past papers
• answers to all the student book questions
• revision checklists

Graham Hill and Andrew Hunt are collaborating on new student and teacher resources to support the 2008 Edexcel and OCR specifications (a different variant for each). Each Student's book will include a CD-ROM (powered by Dynamic Learning), providing students with an interactive version of the book, enhanced with additional resources such as animated tutorials on difficult concepts, extension questions, data sheets, and practical guidance. The network CD-ROM contains further teacher resources including class practicals, animations, video interviews, multiple choice tests and answers to all textbook and activity questions.
