Unit test 1 consists of compulsory structured questions based on the subject content of topics 1 to 5.

Unit test 2 is in two sections:

• the first contains a number of compulsory structured questions based on topics 6 to 10,
• the second consists of a compulsory summary/comprehension exercise based on a passage of text.

Unit test 4 comprises a number of structured questions based on topics 11 to 15.

Unit test 5
This test has two sections 5A and 5B. Section 5A consists of an internal assessment of practical skills.

Section 5B contains one question on each of the prescribed Special Studies. Normally, each question is partly structured and partly free response and concerned with all aspects of the study: background theory, experimental work and technological applications.

Unit Test 6
Is the synoptic paper which tests the ability of students to draw together and integrate their understanding and skills with the knowledge which they have acquired during their study of AS topics 1 to 15, plus A2 topics 16 to 21 which are synoptic in nature.
The paper consists of compulsory structured questions.
