How we got on with the AS in 2001:
report from Wellington School, Somerset
Basically things have gone well and we appreciate the efforts made to keep the course interesting and exciting. Apart from Acids which never fits or works well, the order of topics is more helpful in the 4th edition and allows each unit to be split between two staff.
The greatest challenge has been fitting in all the practical work for unit 3 when students have very little accumulated skill.
The degree of difficulty of the material has not reduced to any significant degree, but the papers set to date have been straightforward and marked in accordance with our expectations.
Looking ahead to A2 we expect to keep almost all our AS students, a plus point for Nuffield. Next year the number taking AS Chemistry will have doubled over the straight A-level numbers.
